Philips design



Rod White is Chief Creative Officer of Design Department under TV production in company TP Vision which is a new joint enterprise of Philips and TPV Technology.


At British Design school on 25.10 Rob was talking about the design way of philips TVs and other products. 
 Philips televisions are knows worldwide and their quality is always high. Though the shape of this product hasn't changed a lot through time, it is now more than just a box with animated pictures. 
The Dutch company produced its first TV in 1928 

When philips design team was thinking about the product developmend they didn't think "how?"
they've been questioning themselves - "why?" 
Why the picture is black and white? Why the screen is blinking? They are not pushing technology for the sake of  technology, they try to understand people's needs. Rob said that the tendency shows that the world is becoming more emotional. The rational use of the product gives place to it's style and how it harmonize with the interior and environment.
 TV market is full of varius production. The way that Tvs are shown in the stores (numbers of similar screens with the same movie on them) makes it very difficult to compete, Rob says. That's why their TV should be unique. And it has to be each year, because the renewal never stops. That is mostly why ambilight was created
 Ambilight is a special system of LEDs behind the screen which kind of extends the picture beyond the frame. Combined with the extremely accurate display that makes it look 3D!



Philips TVs are also more than just a movie-boxes. They are created for the interaction. They can be wirelessly connected to the internet, providing the possibility of watching things online, cheking your e-mail as well as chating with a friend by skype.

  1. The important point, employees of the company are setting themselves the right question is "why?" not "how?" probably their success depends on it. As for me, I'm a fan of this company and of course, I wonder what the design will be next, what needs to be what the customers in the future.
